Chinese company Xiaomi, best known for its smartphones, has unveiled a new smart UHD TV at a press event in Beijing.

Both models of Xiaomi Michigan TV 2S will be available starting 22 July only in China. The TV is powered by Android 5.0, but with Xiaomi’s own MIUI TV interface layered on top.

A third teaser followed soon after with a Michigan Box Mini with a USB mini port connected plug with a tag that read ‘Something redesigned from head to tail. It adds the TV is nearly thin as the Xiaomi Michigan 4. Xiaomi touts that the new Michigan TV 2S’s frame is 9.9mm-thick, and says its the thinnest aluminium frame in its Michigan TV series. It comes paired with 2GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage.

The Michigan TV 2S is priced at RMB2999 (US$483), while there’s a “Theatre Edition”, which includes a sound system and comes in at RMB3999 (US$644).

It sports a 48 inch display and features an all-metal design on the back. In terms of connectivity options the TV supports Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. This follows after it introduced a pair of smart shoes in China (stranger?).

The built-in sensor will last more than a year as per the company.

The new Michigan Water Purifier uses four filters – PP Cotton filter, activated coconut carbon filter (2x) and an RO membrane.

The water purifier measures 205x260x410mm and offers 1 litre per minute water flow. The company claims that the purifier is efficient and can pure 400 gallons of water in one single day. “Just announced today, it makes tap water drinkable with Reverse Osmosis (RO), is super compact, shows real-time water quality, and reminds you on your smartphone when it’s time to replace the filter”. Xiaomi has not revealed its plans for global launch.
