JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a reported abduction in Georgia ended with a murder-suicide on I-20 in Alabama.

The suspect was allegedly the victim’s husband’s mistress.

Clayton County Police Officer Charlene Fraser said 49-year-old Sandra Barnett of Ellenwood, Georgia, was abducted from her home Wednesday. Clayton County police distributed a lookout bulletin for a black Dodge Durango the woman was taken away in, Fraser said.

Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said: “SBI is working closely with law enforcement in Alabama and Georgia, and the SBI will report its findings to the District Attorney”.

The teacher had also recently changed the locks of her backgate after becoming concerned someone had tampered with it, 11 Alive reported.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation is probing the incident, at the request of the Cleburne County Sheriff.

“The driver stopped in the middle of the highway, pulled out a handgun and shot (Barnett) and then turned the gun on herself”, the officer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

When Alabama troopers approached the vehicle, they found the two women dead.
