A Connecticut couple has been arrested after police say their 1-month-old baby boy sustained 20 fractures.

The baby was later transferred to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for further treatment, and has since been released. Sastrum allegedly told police she was “shocked” to find out the baby’s leg was broken and “had no idea” how it might have happened. The baby’s left femur bone was completely broken, along with multiple fractures to his ribs, a torn labial frenulum, and a broken blood vessel in one eye.

The doctor told police the injuries were the result of inflicted trauma and could not have been self-inflicted.

Both Radaskie and Sastrum declined to speak with detectives about the baby’s injuries, telling them they had been advised by their attorney not to talk to police about the injuries or give any statement.

Nikolas Radaskie, 21, and 18-year-old Kali Sastrum of Waterbury were both charged with risk of injury to a minor. They are due back in court on August 4.
