In Trainwreck, Amy Schumer plays a writer who doesn’t believe in monogamy, until she falls in love with one of her interview subjects. It was easily, easily the most awkward, embarrassing moment of my life, being covered up by a very small amount of material in front of an enormous crew of characters.
WGBH Arts Editor Jared Bowen sat down with Apatow and Quinn to talk about making the movie and Schumer’s success in comedy. With Amy Schumer starring and writing, LeBron James appearing, and Judd Apatow directing, I should have known better.

The point is, she’s not looking to change. It’s always amusing. And that’s the important thing. There are some heavy storylines that will take you by surprise, but there’s enough of Schumer’s trademark self-deprecating humor that you’ll be laughing throughout. You might not love her character at first, but “slowly, Schumer develops from parody-persona into an emotionally resonant character who managed to make me cry twice”, she writes. To sum up, watch this movie, you won’t regret it. Trainwreck hits theaters on Friday, July 17.
GQ describes Schumer as the “funniest woman in the galaxy” and even gave her the creative freedom to design her own cover of the issue – a project she took as seriously as, well … see for yourself.
JB: So I understand it’s somewhat autobiographical.
But a real sports world figure does the worst acting in “Trainwreck“. Hader explained: Im not that big of a sports person and I think [athletes] can sense that from me. So it starts out as something personal, but it’s all, it’s all ultimately made up, but it’s about things that she cares about. “I don’t know why he wants to leave”.
