The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Boone and Montgomery counties.
UPDATE 5:26 P.M. – Indiana Black Expo has cancelled Friday night’s free concert at the American Legion Mall due to stage damage and electrical issues after storms hit the downtown area. IPL reports 4,979 households are without power.
Thunderstorms burdened the Chicago area during the mid-afternoon hours, with Cook and Lake Counties under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until about 4 p.m.
The front briefly caused temperatures to dip into the 70s at O’Hare and Midway airports but as of 1:45 p.m., they are soaring up again into the upper 80s.
A tornado watch is still in effect for McHenry County, and surrounding counties, until 10 p.m. Saturday, Enderlen said.
