Native media report 22-year-old Steven Dodd was pronounced lifeless at a hospital early Wednesday after the capturing in Hendersonville.

TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said police were negotiating with Dodd when he reportedly pulled the gun out of his pocket.

Hendersonville police received a call from a concerned citizen that there was a man on the bridge around 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a man on a roadway overpass has fallen and died after being shot by an officer.

The officer called for backup, and three more officers responded, DeVine said.

The Hendersonville Police Department has identified the officer who fired the gunshot as Master Patrol Officer Hunter Raymond.

Dodd fell from the bridge and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. Ryan said Raymond has been with the department since 2008.

It happened on a bridge over Vietnam Veterans Boulevard around Midnight.

The road is closed for about a two-mile stretch between New Shackle Island Road and Saundersville Road in Hendersonville.

DeVine said investigators will turn over interviews and evidence to the district attorney’s office, a standard practice in such officer-involved incidents.

Traffic in the area is being rerouted to alternate routes.
