Severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and into tonight across central Nebraska, east into Iowa, and north into Minneapolis, Minnesota. Areas to the west and south of Rockford have a lower threat for severe weather, but strong storms are still definitely possible.
The Chicago area is in the enhanced risk category for severe weather, including heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind and hail.

Environment Canada advised that there is no safe place outdoors during a thunderstorm and residents should seek shelter if they see adverse conditions. “Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights”.
