JaJuan Dawson, 37, of Murphy was boating with family when he fell overboard about 6:30 p.m. He was not wearing a life jacket. Nobody else fell into the water. He went missing on Lake Lavon, which is located northeast of Dallas.

According to Lt. Chris Havey, Dawson rented a boat at the Collin Park Marina. Dawson dove into the water without a lifejacket, but never resurfaced. He had 21 receptions for 286 yards and started two games during the season.

Dawson, a member of the 1998 undefeated Tulane team, spent two years with the Browns and one with the Texans. His time there included a ideal season in 1998.

A LinkedIn profile with Dawson’s name has him listed as a senior sales representative for Boston Scientific, developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices. Dawson suffered multiple injuries, including a broken collarbone, during his National Football League career and was released in 2004 after training with the New York Giants.

A product of H.L. Bourgeois High School, Dawson played at Tulane from 1996 to 1999.
