Manchester United will have to look elsewhere in their bid to beef up there options in the defense as Real Madrid boss, Rafa Benitez, has now confirmed that their top target Sergio Ramos is not for sale.
United made a £28.6million bid for the Spanish global defender in June, with Sky sources understanding Ramos wanted to leave the Bernabeu and head to Old Trafford.
Although Oblak was not a regular for Atletico in La Liga, the goalkeeper’s performances in Europe have caught the eye of many and United manager Louis van Gaal is also said to be a keen admirer of the 22-year old.
Real Madrid are reportedly willing to wait until next summer to land David De Gea.
“I see the future of Madrid with Sergio because he is a fundamental player for us for all of his qualities, his mentality and his leadership”. I spoke to him during the summer and also in Madrid, but we haven’t been talking about this particular matter because all I want from him is that he works fine and that’s precisely what he’s doing.
“Ramos is an enormous professional. He applies himself and does everything that the team and I ask”, Benitez said ahead of Real’s opening worldwide Champions Cup match against Roma on Saturday.
United had ramped up their interest and tied it in with Los Blancos’ interest in David de Gea, though at the moment progress on either move is very slow. “But I’ve never spoken to the president of that Turkish club”. On United’s list are Edinson Cavani or Thomas Muller and Sergio Ramos or Nicolas Otamendi for £75 million in total.
Indeed, it would appear they have a ready-made replacement for De Gea in the unlikely guise of Ander Herrera, with the Spanish midfielder putting in a stunning display of shot-stopping prowess during Wednesday morning’s training session.
Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Luke Modric, despite all having played in England, were wrapped up warm at Tuesday night’s session as Melbourne shivered through its coldest day in two years.
