Advertising. It’s a key part of trying to sell something to people, and for video games, that’s a vital part of the game development process. Because if you’re trying to sell something, and yet no one knows it’s coming out, you have a problem! The Nintendo Switch is coming out in about a month, and Nintendo is wasting no opportunities to show it off.
That apparently includes having a Super Bowl commercial! Yes, THAT Super Bowl, as in the one that’s coming in just a few days! In fact, it makes perfect sense to do that, as the console will be less than a month away when the Super Bowl airs, AND, it’s a perfect way to show off the console to the casual market, which will be filling up the viewership for the game. Here’s the full commercial.
You’ll notice a lot of games getting the spotlight here, including 1, 2, Switch, Arms, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and of course, Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. These are some of the big games that are coming in the initial launch window, and the upcoming months.
What’s also clear in the commercial is that Nintendo is making a big effort to show the versatility of the console. From its pull away controllers with the Joy Con, to the ability to play ANYWHERE, to being able to link up 8 Switches to have full-on local multiplayer matches.
This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has done a Super Bowl commercial, as last year they did one to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pokemon, and tease the release of Pokemon Go. It worked then, and it may just work now for the Nintendo Switch.
