And if you go a step further and happen to be a fan of writer Nick Spencer’s ongoing, very amusing Ant-Man book from Marvel Comics, you’ll especially enjoy a movie that could be Marvel’s funniest – it’s right up there with “Guardians of the Galaxy“.
Perhaps the powers of shrinking and controlling insects weren’t as impressive as flight, superhuman strength and immortality.
Lastly check out this 2-part behind the scenes Ant-Man B-roll.
Besides that, Ant-Man also excels in tying into the overall Marvel Universe, from Scott suggesting they should call in the Avengers to stop Cross, to a cheeky confrontation over at Avengers headquarters. It’s basically a solo movie save for one cameo that I won’t spoil, while the previous Phase Two MCU flicks have been multi-hero extravaganzas.
Ant-Man is the latest superhero installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Truthfully, I was on the fence about “Ant-Man” before I saw it simply because it seems to have the silliest premise yet.
Plus it helps that Ant-Man is part of one of the biggest Hollywood franchises responsible for $8.5 billion ticket sales globally.
He received the same sort of notice for his film debut playing handsome hunk Josh in the teen comedy Clueless, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
When it comes to superheroes, good things do come in small packages. It’s impossible not to feel heroic in that thing.
The first question I had for Russell was, “Hey, can I see your Oscar?” I’m glad the film chose to lose the whole subplot and stick to a simple story relatively free of the hero’s tragic backstory; it makes Scott all the more relatable and honest. It’s absurd, but we committed to it and loved it to a point where we wondered, “Can we actually get an emotional response from a giant bullet knocking into this ant?”
I brought my 10-year-old son to a screening of “Ant-Man” and he nearly hurt himself laughing so hard at a sequence involving Thomas the Tank Engine. Did you inherit that, or was that something you cooked up on your own? “Before we started shooting, I read the comics, tried to do a little bit of research and get into the mindset as much as possible”. I remember that, as we were prepping and getting ready to shoot, we’d been in contact with the Thomas the Tank Engine people. But his golden heart led him to burgling-not “robbing”-scamming big corporations and returning the money back to its working-class victims””. Thomas does not run over people. Edgar Wright?! Well, hang on then, this might be worth checking out.
Lang is recruited by scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to put on the shrinkable superhero go well with and save the world from the villainous company tycoon Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), with the assistance of Hope van Dyne, Pym’s feisty daughter…
I think we would be foolhardy to have shot a thing where Evangeline Lilly is looking at that unbelievable suit and never give the audience a chance to see her in that suit. There’s that old standard, the reluctant hero who must carry the burden, and a pair of fathers in Scott and Hank trying to reconnect with their daughters. It follows a formula similar to Iron Man – wealthy industrialist fights the injustice his life’s work is being used for.
