In this eventuality, the report suggests that Man Utd will turn their attention to Argentina global Otamendi.

Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi wants his future sorted out before he is scheduled to report for Valencia duty later this month.

Manchester United’s defensive line showed several signs of the inconsistent last season and although they did not concede an outrageous amount of goals (37 goals from 38 matches), the synchronization problems between the players were blatantly obvious.

The Argentine has allegedly told his club that he would like to leave them this summer, but since then there has been nothing but speculation around his next move.

There has been a change in leadership at Valencia and it remains to be seen whether the present hierarchy will have the same tough stance that the previous regime had on Otamendi’s release clause.

Otamendi doesn’t want to return to Valencia, say Marca.

However, they will have to pay a vast fee for Otamendi, with Valencia willing to hold out for a release clause-triggering offer of around £36.1m. However, a move for the Spain global looks increasingly unlikely to make a move this summer, as per the newspaper. It is likely that vice-chairman Edward Woordward will try to negotiate down the price for the defender though, meaning that this transfer could drag on for the remainder of the summer window.

According to reports from the Independent, the Red Devils are really keen on signing Otamendi and the player himself has already reportedly informed Valencia that he wanted to arrive to Old Trafford.

Either way, it appears as though the 27-year-old has made up his mind and will eventually get his move.
