They’re vital to Ant-Man’s mission to stop Cross from selling technology that could have grave consequences (are there any other kind of consequences in superhero movies?) for Earth. But just who is this guy?

Ant-Man is an entertaining but largely forgettable romp set on the peripheries of the rapidly expanding Marvel universe. Evangeline Lilly plays Pym’s daughter Hope who helps train Rudd, while Corey Stoll plays Pym’s protégé and the main antagonist Darren Cross/Yellowjacket.

With the fast-flying jokes and hilarious buddy characters, the more serious moments of the film could have easily been ruined, but the great performances from Rudd, Douglas, and Lilly ensure they don’t. “It didn’t have the interest”. Jeered John Belushi as the Hulk: “Whoa, best stay out of this guy’s way!” I went into the screening of this film with skepticism, but I found a film that is at least as good and thrilling as most of its predecessors and shouldn’t disappoint for most.

“I think that probably she’s the single biggest element of the movie that I would be psyched to explore in another movie, if we do it”, said Reed.

Nixing alcohol didn’t come easy for the actor who will be playing Scott Lang, a.k.a. “Ant-Man“, considering he has a pub in the basement of his home. Jurassic World and Pixar’s Inside Out are both still expected to perform well, and Amy Schumer and Bill Hader’s comedy flick, Trainwreck, has received quite a bit of favorable press and buzz from fans; but, early indications are that Ant-Man is shaping up to be the one to beat at the box office this weekend. Ant-Man would have been much better served as a standalone film instead of a piece of the bigger puzzle.

It’s nice to see Douglas back in his element. So much to the point, I almost wanted to compare the character of Scott Lang to that of Tony Stark. A lust for power becomes rage, and it all builds into a fantastic third act that plays out in the bedroom of Scott Lang’s young daughter.

Director Peyton Reed (Yes Man, Bring it On) may lack the frenetic, hypercaffeinated approach Wright would have taken, but he has done an admirable job. This week, leading to the premiere of Ant-Man, it has received 262,000 tweets and 218,000 searches, as reported by Variety.

You won’t leave Ant-Man in amazement, but it also won’t hit you over the head with a hammer like Avengers: Age of Ultron did.

If you’re on the fence about this movie, I can see why.

I saw the movie in 3D which was really cool when Ant-Man was shrunk down, but overall it was rather blurry.

Meanwhile, “Ant-Man’s” Rotten Tomatoes review stands at the limbo with a 74% rating, a 66/100 rating at Metascore and an 8.0 IMDb rating from IMDb.

Parents should be aware there is some moderate profanity, a mild sexual reference, and violence in Ant-Man, consistent with other Avengers movies.
