Officials believe Trina Heisch, 49, was decapitated by the 43-year-old man who was her husband.
Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump says Kenneth Wakefield, 43, has been released from the hospital and booked on one count of 1st degree murder and two counts of animal cruelty. Two dogs were also found dead inside the house.
Wakefield was missing part of his left arm, as well as one of his eyes, and he appeared to have stabbed himself repeatedly in the chest.
The horrific scene was discovered just after 9:45 a.m. last Saturday in the area of 13th Place and Colter Street, police said. Police said she and the dogs were found decapitated.
A male neighbor knocked on the door of the apartment to check on Wakefield, whom he hadn’t seen since the day before.
After a neighbor dialed 911 on a Saturday morning, officers found the couple’s home covered in blood.
A man accused of decapitating his wife and their pet dogs before mutilating himself has gone from a hospital bed to a jail cell.
Wakefield admitted to officers that he killed three of his family members inside the house.
“These two have a history of a domestic-violence relationship”, he said. As said by family, the two met and married after meeting in a mental health facility.
