Kiwis and Sydney Roosters star Shaun Kenny-Dowall is the subject of a domestic violence allegation lodged by his ex-partner.
The pair had been living together for 18 months and were negotiating a financial settlement to mark the end of their relationship.
A NSW police spokesperson said an investigation was now under way but wouldn’t comment further.
Kenny-Dowall, who plays in the NRL with the Sydney Roosters, was charged on Saturday morning when he turned himself in at a local police station.
The Roosters released a brief statement with no indication as to whether 27-year-old Kenny-Dowall would be stood down from the club’s NRL clash with the Warriors at Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday.
Peris is the daughter of Federal Senator and former Olympian Nova Peris. “As it is a police matter, the club will be making no further comment at this time”.
It’s understood the Roosters were aware of the situation.
The 2013 premiership victor arrived in Sydney with his father when he was 16 and famously stayed in an Eastern Suburbs backpacker’s hostel before winning a contract with the Roosters.
The NRL also confirmed it had been informed of the matter.
He has represented New Zealand on 13 occasions, including the 2010 and 2014 Four Nations victories, and this year’s Anzac test win over the Kangaroos.
