BERKELEY – California men’s tennis collected more accolades on Thursday for its prowess in the classroom, claiming ITA All-Academic status as a team, while graduated seniors and former doubles partners Gregory Bayane and Chase Melton earned status as ITA Scholar Athletes.

Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.), Diego Manzanas (Madrid, Spain), Joel Roberts (Summerville, S.C.), Lukas Luckemeier (Greven, Germany), Steven Weaver (Charleston, S.C.) and Will Baird (Raleigh, N.C.) earned Scholar Athlete honors by meeting the ITA’s academic requirements.

To qualify as an ITA All-Academic Team the players have to have at least a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. The Bruin women also met that criteria, joining 116 other Division I women’s teams with at least a 3.2 team GPA.

Sisson, a graduate student pursuing a master’s in business administration, is the first woman from Providence to earn the Scholar Athlete of the Year honor in track & field.

The Oregon track and field team racked up USA track and field and Cross Country Coaches Association academic awards, Friday. They were among 99 men’s teams to claim the award with a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher.

Cal posted an average GPA of 3.29 after the 2014-15 season.

Cheserek was one of nine Oregon men to be named USTFCCCA All-Academic list.
