Governor Jindal also issued an Executive Order calling for the flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff until July 24, 2015 out of respect for the victims of the Chattanooga, Tennessee terrorist attacks.

“Arming the National Guard at these bases will not only serve as a deterrent to anyone wishing to do harm to our service men and women, but will enable them to protect those living and working on the base”.

Scott announced the order Saturday.

Scott, in his Saturday order, said the move to the armories was temporary so state officials could evaluate their next move – which could include installing bullet-proof glass or upgraded surveillance equipment. Jindal says military personnel are targets when in uniform.

Since the Tennessee shootings, which left four Marines and one Sailor dead, security at recruiting centers has come under scrutiny.

The Navy did not release the sailor’s name, but he was identified by family as Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, a reservist on active duty in Chattanooga, AP reported.
