While noteworthy, a depth chart this early should be used as a basic guide and nothing more.

If Everett Golson is going to be under center, when Florida State plays its season opener on September 5 he’s got a lot of work to do. And, heading into that camp, Golson will be No. 3 in the quarterback pecking order.

Golson, who is coming in from Notre Dame, was listed as third on the Seminoles’ depth chart when the team released it Sunday afternoon, behind returning Sean MaGuire and redshirt freshman J.J. He also has the advantage of knowing the Seminoles offensive system. Maguire has one start at FSU. Golson is on campus and acclimating well to life in Tallahassee, but he can not be given the starting job before he takes some meaningful reps in practice.

For Golson, however, the question is this: Where would you expect him to be at the start of drills? He started 23 games at Notre Dame, including the 2012 BCS title game against Alabama. 14 of those were interceptions while eight were lost fumbles, with four of the picks returned for touchdowns. Their first real test will come on October 10 against Miami.
