Of course, this will be quite a change from the more fast-paced and modern setting for Sherlock’s three previous series.

The latest photo of lead stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Holmes and John Watson has been shared by the BBC and they look like they mean business despite their relaxed poses. “So we had this to do it – as we could hardly hide – it’s Victorian”. Even Sherlock’s chair fits the part.

Meet the greatest armchair detective of all – Sherlock Holmes is back. Coincidentally (or is it?), Brett was a close family friend of Cumberbatch’s parents. “A new #Sherlock Special image has landed…” the official Twitter page of BBC One posted.

The pair are looking decidedly 1800s in a new photo from the upcoming Sherlock Christmas Special, which is set to take place in the Victorian era.

Recently, Vertue gave fans some behind-the-scenes info about shooting the special.

“Co-showrunner Steven Moffat recently revealed that the decision to use a Victorian setting was based purely on his desire to see Holmes and Watson in their traditional era”. There is no time traveling per say (this isn’t Doctor Who!). “It’s fun but it’s tiring”.

No word yet on a USA air date.
