BERKELEY California men’s tennis collected more accolades on Thursday for its prowess in the classroom, claiming ITA All-Academic status as a team, while graduated seniors and former doubles partners Gregory Bayane and Chase Melton earned status as ITA Scholar Athletes.
Jack Desse, Matthew Hutchinson, Nicolas Vincent, Patrick Gaffigan, Haley Ilcewicz, Kali Donner, Mia Frogner and Sierra Halverson were SIUE’s honorees.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above. Teammates Noah Kennedy-White and Tom Pitt were also named to the 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic team. They were among 170 teams honored who earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher.
Six women and two men were named All-Academic. The Husker women posted a 3.30 GPA and the men recorded a 3.17 GPA.
Individually, four Flying Dutch student-athletes made the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team: juniors Jane Pearson of Lake City, Michigan (McBain Northern Michigan Christian) and Julia Stock of Norton Shores, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), sophomore Erin Herrmann of Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS), and freshman Alison Rich of Haslett, Michigan (Haslett HS). Adam’s State’s Tabor Stevens was named as one of the four male Scholar Athletes of the Year.
