A 13-month-old girl who was suspected of being abducted by a man near Lancaster was found safe Saturday afternoon, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s Lt. Joseph Fender said Saturday the man had kidnapped the baby’s mother earlier and left her in the desert before returning to the motel in Palmdale and taking the baby, identified as Penelope Rodriguez.

This story has been corrected to show that authorities misidentified the suspect initially named in the Amber Alert. Authorities said the woman knows Holmes, but the nature of their relationship is unclear.

Holmes was staying with the child and her mother at the motel, but is not the father.

She was in a yellow sleeper jumpsuit and was last seen being driven away in a brown BMW 330I with California license plates 7EVA549, according to California Highway Patrol.

ABC7 reported that a person living near Avenue T-8 at 40th Street East heard noise in a shed, investigated and found the baby. They told authorities that they were on their way to pick up the girl to surrender her at a fire station.
